A Nursery Design

Doug and I lived in Greenville, SC for a few years before his job took us to Atlanta. Moving, we left behind two wonderful best friends and their amazing dog and cat. We miss them so very much and we constantly try to hang out with them any chance we get. 

And now they're pregnant with a sweet baby girl. This nursery has definitely been a labor of love for Amanda and her husband Christopher. They've moved out furniture, painted, installed lighting and window treatments and are just a few weeks away from expecting their first baby! 

Amanda got right to work on the nursery design. We put together the plan below, but I must say that she had already picked out the big pieces and we were only playing around to see what colors/fabrics would work with her aesthetic. Seriously... Amanda has amazing taste!

The areas of concern were the window which sits above the built-in changing table/former desk, the rug, the fabrics, and the accessories. And although we both know that the most important thing will be the health and safety of this sweet baby, we can't help but make her a beautiful room to call her own.

 And this is Bowman. You met him here. The cat is Gracie. They were all about the camera.

The crib sits along the only long wall in the room and its arched shaped and monotone color complements the room very well. The bedding that Amanda went with is equal part whimsy and adorable and Christopher's (very talented) grandmother made every single piece. Baby E is one lucky girl.

Bowman approved.

The changing table was a built-in desk (I mean, how lucky can you get?). I suggested that Amanda go with a cornice board and drapery treatment over the changing table since the window is the focal point of the room and the first thing that you see upon entering the room. 

The monogrammed burlap cornice board with upholstery tacks is definitely a show stopper. I'm obsessed. And, after many, many, many discussions about what fabric to go with for the drapery, we decided to keep them neutral so they wouldn't deter from the fabric in the crib. 

The window is surrounded by built-in floor-to-ceiling shelves which are filled with books, baskets, mementos and diapers. Lots of diapers.

I told them that they don't have enough Clemson items. And I mean it!

Under the changing table is a large built-in. Amanda and I were shopping for hours on Saturday, trying to find the perfect basket for this space but I think that a stuffed Bowman works perfectly.

Right?

This little guy was slaying me in Baby E's "reading corner."

This Empire Rocker was one of the first things that Amanda knew she had to have for the nursery. The lines were perfect and it was so easy to create a room around this beautiful piece of furniture that can be used again and again.

And to finish of the design, this mirror flanks the wall on the opposite side of the built in over the chest of drawers.

Baby E has an amazing shoe collection. 

And she has a lot of clothes. 

That pink puffer vest. 

I can't wait until she cant wear it.
